Solutions on Site: RRA Psychotherapy in Partnering Schools
In response to the growing need for psychotherapy services for school aged students, RRA has partnered with select private schools to provide psychotherapy services on-site at participating private schools. Our ‘Solutions on Site’ (SOS) program includes the same exceptional quality of therapy students receive in our clinic on site at the child’s school. Our seasoned, fully licensed psychotherapists travel to our partner schools to provide individual psychotherapy, group therapy, observations, and teacher support during the school day. Our SOS partner schools can also offer RRA parent presentations, teacher training, and professional development by RRA clinicians to their community.
Benefits of SOS
Most private schools already offer on-site services, such as speech therapy or academic therapy, during the school day. SOS expands these support services to include psychotherapy. Having their child’s services happen during the school day is highly desirable for busy professional parents. SOS allows more students to benefit from psychotherapy because we alleviate the burden on parents of rushing around in the after school or evening hours to get to appointments. SOS is an invaluable service schools can offer to their parent community because both parents and schools can be assured that their students can access a high quality psychological care from trusted providers. Our SOS clinicians can be right there at school to address concerns such as anxiety, stress, or making friends. SOS also alleviates the demands on school guidance counselors, school psychologists, and learning specialists to manage more complicated student mental health needs. Finally, SOS allows us to directly observe students at school, and (if desired) to collaborate with school professionals to meet each student’s unique support needs, right in the setting where they will apply and practice their new skills.
How it Works
Solutions on Site includes the same high quality psychological services and exceptional clinician care that we offer to every patient at RRA. Students receiving SOS therapy become full patients of RRA, with the practice assuming the responsibility for their care. Our providers are fully licensed clinicians in good standing who have regular background checks, so schools can feel confident about safety. When a school partners with us, we provide the Head of School with our formal SOS agreement, in which we document our role and responsibilities as providers on school grounds. Once a school refers a family, RRA staff create the same formal patient-clinician relationship with the family, just as we do for all of our RRA patients. Families pay RRA directly, so the school has no additional administrative responsibilities. The only difference for our SOS patients is that we come to the students during the school day.
Next, parents participate in an intake session with their clinician to discuss their child and psychotherapy goals. We work with the school and parents to ensure that everyone agrees on the treatment plan. Then the RRA clinicians work with the school to determine dates, times and a private space for therapy. If desired, parents and students may shift their care to the RRA office as needed.
